ACTORS WILL EACH RECEIVE A $100 STIPEND FOR THEIR WORK
The Tempest will run July 25 through August 4, 2019. Performances will take place Thursdays, Fridays, & Sundays (Note: there are no Saturday performances.) All performances are staged at Batavia Fine Arts Center 1399 W Wilson St, Batavia.
WHO: Seeking a total of 13 performers; doubling as indicated below. Though listed as the genders identified by Shakespeare’s cast of characters, allroles are open to any gender and any ethnicity.
CHARACTER DESCRIPTIONS PROSPERO: A powerful magician and rightful Duke of Milan, usurped by his brother.
ARIEL/CERES: A spirit of the island who Prospero has enslaved. Music and dance or movement background preferred.
MIRANDA/STEPHANO: Miranda is Prospero’s daughter who has grown up on the island since she was a young child. Role doubles with Stephano, the king’s drunk butler and friend of Trinculo.
FERDINAND/TRINCULO: Ferdinand is Alonso’s son and heir to the throne of Naples. Role doubles with Trinculo, the king’s jester and friend of Stephano.
CALIBAN/BOATSWAIN: Caliban is the son of an evil witch, he was abandoned on the island as a baby and enslaved by Prospero. May not be entirely human. Doubles with the Boatswain, the sailor in charge of running the ship in the storm. Seeking strong physicality and movement.
ALONSO: King of Naples. Shipwrecked on the island, and consumed with grief for his son who he believes is lost at sea.
SEBASTIAN: Alonso’s younger, conspiring brother.
ANTONIO: Prospero’s ambitious brother. Current Duke of Milan.
GONZALO: Alonso’s trusted advisor and friend of Prospero.
TWO (2) SPIRITS also double as IRIS & JUNO in a poetic pageant. Dance background preferred.
TWO (2) FOLEY ARTISTS creating the magic of the island. Music background preferred.
